About:

Stephen Bury was a Brackenbury scholar in Modern History at Balliol College, Oxford, winning the Davis History Prize. He completed his PhD on 'John Ruskin and History' at Birkbeck College, University of London. In 1978 he became the Librarian and also taught art history at Chelsea School of Art until 2000, becoming the Head of European & American Collections at the British Library, where he also had responsibilities for Web Archiving and for Research. He became the Chief Librarian of The Frick Collection in May 2010. He has published 'Artists' books' (1995), 'Artists' multiples' (2001), 'Multiplication' (2001) and 'Breaking the Rules: the printed face of the European avant garde, 1900-1937'.

Research include the literature of art; the impact of the digital on the future of humanities; and the use of the past in the project of modernism.
