Robert Miles' recurring interest is in generic change during the Romantic period with a particular emphasis on the Gothic and the novel. His publications include Gothic Writing 1750-1820: A Genealogy (1993); Ann Radcliff: the Great Enchantress (1995) and Romantic Misfits (2008) in the Palgrave-Macmillan monograph series "Enlightenment, Romanticism and the Cultures of Print," ed. Mellor and Siskin. He is currently working on Jane Austen and Happiness, a book that brings together recent revisionist work on secularization, the Enlightenment and literary form.
